Third grade students are extending their learning about communities with a "Flat Stanley" project. Students listened to portions of the book Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown, which is a story about a boy who is flattened by a bulletin board. Students created their own Flat Stanley to send to a relative or friend in a different state or country. When Stanley returns, students share his experiences with the class. Stanley has visited many states and countries this far: Massachusetts, Maine, Illinois, Wisconsin, New York, Georgia, Texas, California, Canada, Japan, Australia, Iraq, and The Philippines.We were excited to learn that a Flat Stanley from West Hartford even helped President-elect Barack Obama practice his speeches!
